Moses starts out with the children of Israel who now number over a million men, women and children, heading out of Egypt into the wilderness, with their cattle and live stock.
Can you imagine a city of 1-million people heading out of town on foot with their animals.
How could this even be done?
And they had no provision ahead of time.

There were physical signs given to the people, showing God was leading them:
Numbers 9:15-18 And on the day that the tabernacle was reared up the cloud covered the tabernacle, namely, the tent of the testimony: and at even there was upon the tabernacle as it were the appearance of fire, until the morning. So it was alway: the cloud covered it by day, and the appearance of fire by night.
And when the cloud was taken up from the tabernacle, then after that the children of Israel journeyed: and in the place where the cloud abode, there the children of Israel pitched their tents.
At the commandment of the Lord the children of Israel journeyed, and at the commandment of the Lord they pitched: as long as the cloud abode upon the tabernacle they rested in their tents.
Even with the sign of the cloud and the fire ... making it obvious that God was showing them exactly where they were to go, they complained over and over about Moses and Aaron leading them out into the wilderness where there was no food and no water and no meat.
Also the enemy attacked them from time to time. And there were giants in the land!
How could this be the promised land?

Psalm 78:10-33 They kept not the covenant of God, and refused to walk in HIS law; And forgat HIS works, and HIS wonders that HE had shewed them.
Marvellous things did HE in the sight of their fathers, in the land of Egypt, in the field of Zoan.
HE divided the sea, and caused them to pass through; and HE made the waters to stand as an heap.
In the daytime also HE led them with a cloud, and all the night with a light of fire.
HE clave the rocks in the wilderness, and gave them drink as out of the great depths. HE brought streams also out of the rock, and caused waters to run down like rivers.
And they tempted God in their heart by asking meat for their lust.
Yea, they spake against God; they said, Can God furnish a table in the wilderness?
Behold, HE smote the rock, that the waters gushed out, and the streams overflowed; can HE give bread also? can HE provide flesh for HIS people?
Therefore the Lord heard this, and was wroth: so a fire was kindled against Jacob, and anger also came up against Israel;
Because they believed not in God, and trusted not in HIS salvation:
Though HE had commanded the clouds from above, and opened the doors of heaven, And had rained down manna upon them to eat, and had given them of the corn of heaven.
Man did eat angels' food: HE sent them meat to the full.
So they did eat, and were well filled: for HE gave them their own desire;
They were not estranged from their lust. But while their meat was yet in their mouths, The wrath of God came upon them, and slew the fattest of them, and smote down the chosen men of Israel.
For all this they sinned still, and believed not for HIS wondrous works.
Therefore their days did HE consume in vanity, and their years in trouble.

He caused an east wind to blow in the heaven: and by HIS power HE brought in the south wind.
He rained flesh also upon them as dust, and feathered fowls like as the sand of the sea: And HE let it fall in the midst of their camp, round about their habitations.
So they did eat, and were well filled: for HE gave them their own desire;
They were not estranged from their lust. But while their meat was yet in their mouths, The wrath of God came upon them, and slew the fattest of them, and smote down the chosen men of Israel.
For all this they sinned still, and believed not for HIS wondrous works.
Therefore their days did HE consume in vanity, and their years in trouble.

And Moses led them for more than 40-years in the wilderness.
Paul says all these things happened to them for examples so we would not lust after evil things as they lusted. I Corinthians 10
These are very exciting times and wonderful examples for us.
